Graffiti is a Beautiful Crime Essay example -- Argumentative Persuasiv

Graffiti is a Beautiful Crime Graffiti is a form of art that people use to express themselves and to convey various messages to people in a particular community. In the movie "Graffiti Verite':. One of the graffiti artist explained that his purpose in doing graffiti is that it allows him to "express his anger' on the wall. Another kid by the name of "Jipsie" said that graffiti is a "form of growth". There were several different explanations that artists shared as well as several different reasons why they like graffiti. The common theme among the graffiti artist and taggers was that graffiti is simply a form of self-expression (Bryan). At the end of the film one tagger made a comment and said, "graffiti is not vandalism, but it is a beautiful crime". This comment did not make sense to me. Committing a crime, a hideous act, is not a beautiful thing to do by any means. Graffiti does not mean people can go around and draw and spray paint on other peoples property. Regardless of what types of graffiti are being expre ssed by the tagger, this type of self expression is considered vandalism when people decide to draw, destroy, or violate any persons property without consent. As a result of taggers committing the crime of vandalism, property owners, concerned citizens, and law enforcement officers spend too much time, money, and energy trying to put an end to the unlawful act of vandalism. Looking from the taggers' point of view, one can understand why taggers and graffiti artists draw and do graffiti, but this does not justify the fact that often times this form of self-expression is not acceptable when it is done on other peoples property. Having the opportunity to listen (film, class, talk show) to why taggers and graf... ...erent meanings and different types of self-expression. "The simplified imagery of graffiti has become attractive to certain professional fine artists in various areas around the world" (Philips). The point that I am making is that various forms of graffiti are beautiful and the need to express ones' self is part of what being a human being is all about. I don't see a problem with the reasoning behind why graffiti artists do graffiti and why taggers tag. It becomes a problem when they use other people's property (including public and city property) to express themselves via graffiti and tagging. Work Cited Bryan, Bob "Graffiti Verite'" (Movie), 1996. Horatio Essay -- essays research papers

Horatio, The One True Friend   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  William Shakespeare wrote about a distraught prince trying to avenge the wrongful death of his father while all his faith in honesty and the good of man was nearly destroyed. In his play Hamlet, Hamlet is the prince and he is the one who would have lost all his faith in the good of man had it not been for his loyal friend Horatio. Many critics say that Horatio did not play such an important role in the tragedy, that he merely was the informant for the audience and that his character was not developed beyond that fact that he was just the honest confidant of Hamlet. That may be true, however, Horatio does serve two central purposes to the drama, and it is through these purposes that show the qualities that make Horatio memorable and admirable. Horatio is the harbinger of truth. It is through Horatio that the actions taken by Hamlet gain credibility. He is the outside observer to the madness. Hamlet could soliloquize on and on, but it is his conversations with Horat io that gives sanity to Hamlet’s thoughts. His second role is to be the loyal, truthful confidant of Hamlet. The audience meets Horatio in the opening scene of the play. Marcellus and Bernardo, the Danish officers on guard at the castle, ask Horatio to speak to the vision that came to visit the castle. He is asked by the officers to speak to the spirit because he is a most educated scholar and the only one among them qualified to speak in such an intimidatin...

Network Security Essay

Firewall:- A firewall is a software program or a piece of information that help screen out hackers, virus, worms and Trojan horse that try to reach to your computer over the internet. If you use a computer at home the most efficient and important step to help your computer to protect by turning on your firewall. If you have a more than one computer connects in home. It is important to protect every computer. You should have a hardware firewall (such as router) to protect your network, but you should also use software firewall on each computer to prevent the spread of virus your network. If your computer is a part of business, you should follow the policy established by network administrator. How it works:- When your firewall protection is turned on, everything that goes in and out of the network is monitored. The firewall monitors allows ‘good data’ in and block ‘bad data’ from entering your network. Firewall uses one or combination of the following method to control the traffic in and of the network:- 1) Packet filtering:- The most basic form of firewall software uses pre-determined rules to create different filters. If an incoming packet of data (small chunk of data) is flagged by the filters, it is not allowed through. Packets that make it through the filters are sent to requesting system and all others are discarded. 2) Proxy services:- A proxy service is an application that acts as an intermediary between systems. Information from the internet is received by the firewall and sent to the requesting system and vice versa.   Proxy server operates at the application layer of firewall, where both ends of the connection are forced to conduct session through the proxy. They operate by creating and running a process on the firewall that mirrors a service as if it were running on the host end, and thus centralize all the information transfer to the firewall for scanning. 3) Stateful inspection:- The most modern method of firewall scanning that does not rely on memory intensive examination is ‘Stateful inspection’. A Stateful firewall  holds significant attributes of each connection of trusted information for the duration of session. These attributes which are collectively known as state of the connection may include ip addresses, ports involved in the network and number of packets being transferred. Types:- There are two types of firewall that are as follows:- Hardware firewall. Software firewall. 1) Hardware firewall:- Hardware firewall built into the device such as routers and can protect every single machine on a network and require little configuration for efficient work. They mostly use packet filtering technique to examine the header of the packet, determining source and destination, then comparing the data to a set of predefine rules, they decide whether to ignore the packet or forward to the next step or to its final destination. 2) Software firewall:- Software firewalls are the most popular protection method for home users. They usually come as standalone applications or as a part of complete antivirus protection software. That is why it is mostly used in personal network. Antivirus such as bull guard provides besides providing protection for inbound and outbound traffic. A software firewall also protects against worms and Trojan horses. The software firewall must be regularly protected to keep up the latest technology updates and provides effective protection. NOTE:- Each type has advantages and disadvantages, ranging from ease of implementation to high initial cost. Companies should use the firewall as part of overall information security program that includes data integrity, application integrity and data confidentiality and authentication.

East African Breweries – Analysis of It’s Business & Financial Performance

Brief company overview Established in 1922 and with its headquarters in Nairobi- Kenya, East African Breweries Ltd. (EABL) is aleading branded alcohol manufacturing company in the East African region engaged in the marketing, brewing and selling of alcoholic and non- alcoholic drinks as well as the manufacturing of glass containers. Majority owned by Diageo, it consists of a number of subsidiaries. 1 1. 2. Research rationale.Compared to their counterparts in the developed world, little research has been carried out on organizationsthat operate in African countries as these are seen as lacking the management capacity or financial resourceseither to compete with larger organizations in the developed world or to interest international investors. However the events of the last two years, which have seen investors lose millions of dollars in theirinvestments due to the collapse of the international financial markets, have increased the need forinternational investors to diversify their por tfolios into regions hitherto considered unimportant.By carryingout a critical business and financial evaluation of the performance of a typical large African organization, thisreport attempts to highlight the missed opportunities that may remain untapped in emerging markets. With annual revenues of KES 21 billion (US$ 285 million), KES 26 billion (US$ 367 million) and KES 32 1The subsidiaries include Kenya Breweries Ltd. , Uganda Breweries Ltd. , Kenya Maltings, UDV Kenya and CentralGlass Industries. The company also holds a 20% stake in Tanzania Breweries Ltd. IFRSs and ISAs respectively, thiscompany3may represent a well managed company with growing profitability and investment potential. Thisreport attempts to establish this by analyzing its business and financial performance over a three year period. To assist in the analysis of EABL’s performance the average exchange rate prevalent in the three years understudy are as follows: Table 1: Foreign exchange rates.Average annual exchange rate Calendar YearUS Dollars (USD) Kenya Shillings (KES)2006 1 73. 738702007 1 70. 8073320081 66. 83044 Source: Oanda (2009) 1. 3. Research objective and question. This research delves into both the business and financial performance of EABL with an aim to identify themajor business elements that are key to its performance. It goes further to look at how these business factorshave impacted on the financial performance of the company. It is difficult to separate the financial performance of a company from its wider business environment andhence the business and financial performance of a company are closely interlinked.Decisions made at thecorporate and/ or business level impact directly on company’s financial performance. Where corporatestrategy aims to grow t he company through acquisition of competitor firms, this will have a direct impact onprofitability and profitability indicators. Increased sales in new markets will lead to bigger profits andmargins where costs are well managed. 1. 4. Research approach. Drawing primarily on secondary sources of information (accounting books, annual reports, academicjournals, newspaper articles, etc) this research sought to analyze both quantitative data and qualitative

Putting India to Work Legally Essay

In order to remain India’s largest employer, they had to keep up with the explosive growth and competition in the telecommunications, financial services, and retail sectors. 2. ) Going forward, TeamLease has faced a few challenges along the road. First, TeamLease decided to move from a decentralized to a centralized structure for operations, causing fear and resistance from clients who were afraid of the loss of personalized services and fear from TeamLease employees who disliked the idea of relocating. TeamLease also had a difficult time filling open positions. Many people were registered with the government-run employment exchanges and many of these people were not fully qualified for the job. TeamLease also tried to partner with training companies but there was no training company that would accept their concept of paying for their services only after their trainee has been placed with a job. They also took a big hit during the 2009 recession causing the open job market to drop dramatically and as well as a decrease in client support. . ) The competitors that worry me the most are Addeco and Randstad. Addeco seems to be the largest HR staffing service company followed by Randstad. Addeco is a major threat with over 33,000 employees and 5,500 branches, in over 60 countries. Randstad has 28,700 employees, 3,500 branches, in over 40 countries. TeamLease on the other hand has 75,000 employees in 600 branches. TeamLease may have more employees, but Randstad and Adecco seems to have mo re qualified employees and are more spread out worldwide. TeamLeast has the least amount of branches among its top competitors.I believe that TeamLease should put more money into staffing and training in order to have more suitable and a more experienced staff in order to maintain competitive advantage. They should also try to increase or spread out more of their branches to other countries. TeamLease should also put more effort into marketing and their advertising campaign. Last, they should consider offering employee incentives such as days off or bonuses’.

Multi Fiber Agreement Is The Most Impacted Agreement Signed Economics Essay

Drumhead Multi-fiber Agreement is the most wedged understanding signed on Textile and Clothing Industry. Before the MFA, industries in major importing states were extremely impacted due to the unregulated imports. Since the execution of MFA universe trade on T & A ; C was subjected to quotas. These quotas were negotiated bilaterally and regulated by the MFA. It was chiefly based on the rule of ‘non-discrimination ‘ . Members were agreed to merchandise on selected measures in importing garment merchandises from the developing states. After several treatments, started from Uruguay in 1986 to Geneva in 1994, members of the MFA came to an understanding to get rid of 20 old ages old MFA, in a 10 twelvemonth consecutive procedure. Agreement on Textile and Clothing was granted. ATC was consisted with four phases of taking procedure of MFA ( WTO 2010 ) . Fabrics and vesture, was 16 % comparing with Hong Kong ‘s exports value and rated as 2nd taking fabrication industry. After the abolishing, fabric and vesture industry have to confront the challenges and new chances. In short term state ‘s economic system loosed 3 % of market portion ( 9 % -6 % ) of the international market. The economic system went to downswing and loosed chance in spread outing their exports to developed states. Fabric and vesture manufacturers were non in a place to vie with the international market due to the low capacity of fabrication and export of Textile and vesture merchandises. But some single exporters have achieved competitory advantages by diminishing their costs by take downing labor costs and lay-off the extra workers. Country ‘s supply concatenation direction has besides changed due to the abolishment of ATC. Major providers have to take control in their supplies and they shift their extra production to other industries in order to a void cost from none bring forthing. Sing the chances, ATC abolishing, enabled both importers and providers to offer best merchandises and services. This is anticipated to lowest managerial costs and 40 % of the clip and attempt was used up on antecedently allotments of orders to a high figure of beginnings. It was able to reduced cost per unit and shifts the benefits to their makers every bit good as more chance made to spread out non merely in their part but in other parts. Hence, state ‘s garments industries already established. In the long-term, makers more tended towards sophisticated and high value-added processs, while beef uping relationships with foreign garments purchasers. This was helped them to re-capture their market portion while high competition rose from China. However most of the benefits of the quota riddance went to the consumers in USA and EU. Because the monetary value of one piece of fabric became lower through gap to the competitions and premium by quota riddance addition by the concluding consumers ( Hong Kong ‘s Trade Development Council 2005 ) . The export based garment industry in Nepal was succeeded between old ages 1991-2000. . The United States absorbed more than 80 % of Nepal ‘s entire ready made garments exports before the ATC quota phase-out. The industry was managed to keep 25 % of entire exports yearly. In 2002 it was recognized as the highest foreign currency earner to the state ( US $ 160 million ) . In 2004 ready-made garments were ranked among top two export merchandises. The peak clip of the industry, can be identified as the period of 1994-1995 and reached to a record of 49 % part to the state ‘s entire exports. The industry consisted of 1,067 registered workss every bit good as more unofficial operations. In 1999/2000, employed workers were estimated as 50,000. But after the riddance of ATC, in 2006 it was supplying direct employment for merely 4,450 workers and about 45 % of the employees were adult females. But, harmonizing to 2001 figures, it is about 27 % . The abolishment of ATC was a decease knell to the industry. Export net incomes declined by an one-year rate of 14.2 % ( 2000-2007 ) , and decreased to 21.2 % ( 2005-2007 ) . Export from the USA market and net incomes declined by 18.5 % and 28.4 % severally, during the two periods. The industry was happening hard to vie in the USA market. Companies which were based on the imports of natural stuffs, tended to purchase largely from India and China. This was increased in costs compared with other rival garment bring forthing states. When the Government of the USA imposed quotas on garments imports from developing states, Nepal was an attractive state for Indian exporters who wished to put in garment production to run into their quota lacks and produce garments merchandises to the United States market. In 2004, proportion of the ready-made garments exports comparing to the entire national exports were 17.8 % and 6.7 % in 2007. In 2004, the portion of garment exports to the USA was 13.4 % , but decreased to about 4 % in 200 7. Gradual abolishment of the universe quota government in T & A ; C resulted in backdown of investing by Indian investors who were already invested in garments industry in Nepal and exploited the quotas provided chiefly by the USA to Nepal. Garment industry had experienced a rapid growing from the mid-1980s chiefly, because of their quota installations given by the first universe states such as the United States and Europe. But, the industry was confronting high competition in the universe market in garment industry. When the phasing-out of quotas started from 2005, exports have been already down from 2000/01 except a export recoil in 2002/03. The portion of ready-made garments exports to entire exports decreased from 28.1 % in 1999/2000 to 6.7 % in 2006/07. Hence, domestic entire exports growing was severely declined -1.4 % in 2006/07 from 39.7 % in 1999/2000. Industry ‘s part of the entire national exports to gross domestic merchandise ( GDP ) was 13.6 % before riddance, bu t 1999/2000, it was declined up to 8.2 % in twelvemonth 2006/07 ( Belbase et al. 2009 ) . Indian fabric industry is consisted with ready-made garments, cotton, silk, woollen fabrics and handcrafts. In 1985 the policies were changed and a separate policy statement was started to development for fabric industry. Domestic fabric policy was province in 2001 ( Impact of WTO on Textile Industry in India ) . The 2nd biggest fabrics manufaturer and cotton consumer in the Earth is India. China holds the first topographic point. India is the universe ‘s 3rd largest manufacturer of cotton after China and the USA † ( Impact of WTO on Textile Industry in India ) . It was represented as the starting point for an automatic liberalisation procedure, when former MFA quotas were carried over into the ATC on 1 January 1995. The first phase of the Agreement and the new growing rate was applied yearly in the undermentioned manner when the former MFA growing rates applicable to each of these quotas were increased ( Appendix 6 ) ( Impact of WTO on Textile Industry in India ) . There are some commissariats and committednesss that have to be undertaken in all countries of the Urguary Round since this relate to fabrics dressing. Therefore all members are required â€Å" shall take actions as they may be necessary â€Å" to stay by the subjects of WTO in order to accomplish improved market entree to avoid favoritism against fabrics and vesture imports and to guarantee the application of just and just trading conditions. ( Impact of WTO on Textile Industry in India ) . The elaminating the MFA understanding was impacted to the industry in many ways. When the ATC progressing towards elemination, there were some support by political relations on the many-sided trading system. Decrease on duties besides take topographic point in India for the industry. India belives that the elemination is positive impact on the industrial development in long-run. There are the efficiency additions from extinguishing extremely falsifying quotas that have lead to an inefficient planet ary allotment of fabric and vesture production. There is the loss of quota rents on the portion of ATC exporters. The Agreement on Textiles and vesture was terminated in December 2004. Bilateral quotas removed and all fabrics and vesture merchandises were to the full integrated into WTO regulations. Full application of WTO regulations to international trade in fabrics and vesture was a really positive and long-awaited development for the industries and 1000000s of consumers who will profit from a more unfastened, non-discriminatory and crystalline trading environment in this sector ( Impact of WTO on Textile Industry in India ) . Appendixs Appendix 1: ( Nordas 2004 ) Appendix 2: ( Nordas 2004 ) Appendix 3: ( UNCTAD2008 ) Appendix 4: ( UNCTAD2008 ) Appendix 5: ( Mlachila 2004 ) Appendix 6: ( Impact of WTO on Textile Industry in India ) Phases Year Change Phase 1 1st January 1995 Growth rate increased by a factor of 16 % yearly. Phase 2 1st January 1998 Growth rate increased by a factor of 25 % Phase 3 1st January 2002 Growth rate increased by a factor of 27 % yearly.

Innovation Strategy at Microsoft Essay

Microsoft Corporation is an American multinational software corporation that develops, manufacturers, licenses and supports a wide range of products and services related to computing. Microsoft is the world’s largest software maker and affects millions of users worldwide every day. The company recorded all-time high revenue bringing in $73.7 billion for fiscal year 2012. After analyzing this case, I have concluded that the main problem for Microsoft is that their deep silos are inevitably hindering its ability to produce products and/or services to compete with current computing trends in the industry. While Microsoft continues to dominate the computing world, it cannot be attributed to their innovation strategy. To address these problems I suggest that Microsoft alter their environment to better simulate innovation. Microsoft should create an environmental culture in which employees are encouraged to venture outside their tasks, minimal time pressure, and high job security give positive feedback for initiatives taken. These recommendations are based on specific concepts from the book. Current environment inside Microsoft does not currently provide positive feedback. Their current environments sets commitments for each division and employees are faced with performance evaluations. When employees failed to meet designated commitments, employees were penalized. Additionally, employees are penalized for taking on activities unrelated to their commitments. First in chapter 6 we saw that in an industry where growth is slowing and competition becomes stronger, an organization’s success requires innovation. This is why it is recommended that Microsoft focus on simulating innovation. We saw that innovators derive from individual developers and thereby can be considered the true source of innovative products. While an organization system model and creative individuals are key stakeholders in the business, it is not enough to drive innovation. Per chapter 6, there are several effective ways to simulate innovation- of which are the recommendations suggested above. Innovation Strategy at Microsoft: Clouds on the Horizon ACC – Applied Carbon Corporation (large environmental technology conglomerate) EBC (Executive Briefing Center) Innovation team- Gates was engaged with the engineer and the algorithm, he talked about how the algorithm that could increase the speed of the search This suggestion by Gates reduced time used on massive server banks Later he proposed an innovation to monetization model that would save corps millions of energy time. Innovation at Microsoft: Top-Down or Bottom-Up? Innovation drivers: Product groups, Microsoft Research labs, Innovation teams generating grassroots innovation Innovation at Microsoft really was a â€Å"one-man show†, vision and drive of a senior leader, i.e. Gates, then would work its way down Gates would send out memos calling for dramatic change in products, services and technologies Microsoft offered Extensions on existing products & services – result of product groups New products & services accounted for 1/3 Microsoft Rev Grassroot Innovation Grassroot innovation- attempt to tap into diverse ideas of Microsoft employees & turn into profitable new businesses Participated in ThinkWeek, Quest, IdeAgency & Innovation Outreach Program ThinkWeek- technical papers submitted once a year directly to Gates who reviews them for a week & makes comments Quest- Similar to ThinkWeek but involved Microsoft’s most senior & accomplished technical minds Thinkweek & Quest tapped into minds of senior technical staff- ignored other employees IdeAgency- to full realize potential in grassroots innovation by all Microsoft employees Executive sponsor (most likely product group leader) identified a prb that needed a solution & all employees through an IdeaExchange tool would submit solutions Learning by doing- needed more adjustments- submitting ideas wasn’t enough. Therefore top ideas of IdeAgency were selected (ie. 300 first session), form groups, were given a budget & resources to develop a prototype within 8 weeks. ThinkWeek, Quest, IdeAgency- all internal request for info, IOP implemented to include public Chief innovation officers from 10 Microsoft largest accounts for two-day innovation brainstorming conference- asked to look 5 years ahead (LT ignore ST) Steep believed this would drive innovation b/c had two critical flows of information done in product groups & Microsoft research labs 1. Top-down guidance 2. Bottom-up expertise The Information Technology Industry: Clouds on the Horizon Grassroots innovation initiatives response to increased competition from all sides (apple, amazon, google, linux and others) Microsoft generated most rev from consumer & enterprise licenses for software products ’08 operating income $22.5B on rev of $60. 4B (15% growth rate) New technologies threaten importance of Windows operating system as a universal platform, undermining traditional licensing model used by Microsoft for so long Microsoft business model relied heavily on product groups within divisions while each group tailored its software development process to its core technology & market Product groups worked closely with Sales, Marketing & Service division to deliver on customer needs Again, licensing model has been successful for Microsoft but many business analysts that shrink-wrapped software method of generating revenue will be obsolete and lose to cloud computing items 2000 Apple launched MobileMe Yahoo implemented online advertising business model Amazon online service & transaction business model Google online info search leader Grassroots Innovation under Microscope Product groups focus on ST & Research labs on LT So many processes running concurrently with lots of capital tied into them – is Microsoft delivering on its process? The ThinkWeek & Quest relied heavily no Gates- so what if he departed? IdeAgency great on paper- while delivered many successes, few drawbacks- immense time required to facilitate Too many hurdles trying to make fruitful collaborations in resistant environment Too much effort to get anything going across the product groups Many employees refused to work on projects beyond their defined objectives and commitments out of fear of receiving poor evaluations Organization Structure & Design Three divisions: Platform Products & Services, Microsoft Business & Entertainment & Devices Deep silos that barely communicated or collaborated Three business divisions, seven business groups & 27 product groups were told to focus on its own individual profit/loss. Business groups didn’t have time or incentive to participate in collaborations away from their own group Culture & Beliefs Developer-centric company b/c most employees possessed extraordinary amount of tech expertise- every employee (even senior mgmt.) had small office with a closed-door policy to concentrate better Culture a result of Gates behavior and mgmt. system driven by 3 core beliefs- 1) individual excellence (believed they had brightest employees in the world) 2) competitive behavior 3) accepted to never accept 2nd best (Go Big or Go Home) These believes lead to extreme intra- and interfirm competition intensity Competition amongst each other for positions Personal meeting with Gates & his lieutenants in which major employees are dissected & reviewed (can make or break your career at Microsoft) Culture & Beliefs Individual & group incentives were primarily influenced by â€Å"commitments† tied to each employees output- detailed objectives stated in form of a contract between employee & supervisor. At beginning of year commitments set in stone & couldn’t be changed.
